Tara Maddala, PhD

Tara is an independent statistical consultant specializing in clinical development strategy for pharmaceutical and diagnostic companies. From 2016 to 2019, Tara was the Vice President of Biometrics at GRAIL, leading a team of statisticians, clinical data scientists, data managers, and biosample managers. GRAIL focuses on the early detection of cancer using cfDNA and creates vast datasets through one of the largest clinical trial programs ever pursued in genomic medicine. At GRAIL, Tara's team was responsible for study design, biosample and clinical data collection, statistical analysis, and reporting of clinical studies. Before GRAIL, Tara led the Biostatistics team at Genomic Health responsible for design and analysis of large-scale oncology biomarker studies that resulted in algorithm-based commercial diagnostics. Earlier in her career, Tara was Director of Biostatistics at Clinimetrics, a contract research organization helping pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies bring products to market. She is co-inventor on several cancer genomic patents and has co-authored approximately 20 peer-reviewed publications and over 30 congress presentations. Tara volunteers with Young Women in Bio and regularly lectures for the UCSF-Berkeley Translational Medicine program. She holds a BS in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the University of Florida, an MS in Health Systems Engineering from Georgia Tech, and a PhD in Biostatistics from The University of Texas.
